DESCRIPTION
An idler pulley is a component in a truck's engine that serves to redirect the path of the serpentine belt. It does not provide power to any auxiliary systems but rather acts as a guide for the belt, ensuring it stays on track and properly aligned with other pulleys. The idler pulley is typically mounted on a bracket and rotates on its own bearing. Over time, the bearing can wear out or become damaged, leading to squeaking or chirping noises coming from under the hood. If left unaddressed, a failing idler pulley can cause the serpentine belt to slip or even break, resulting in loss of power steering and other critical systems. Therefore, it is essential to regularly inspect and replace worn-out idler pulleys as part of routine maintenance for your truck's engine performance and longevity.
