DESCRIPTION
Starting Motor (Part Number: 5688755, Make: Cummins®) The starting motor, also known as a starter motor, is an electric motor that is responsible for initiating the engine's rotation during the starting process. It operates by drawing electrical energy from the battery and converting it into mechanical energy. The starting motor engages with the engine's flywheel or flexplate via a small gear known as the pinion gear. When the ignition key is turned, a solenoid activates the starting motor, causing the pinion gear to mesh with the flywheel or flexplate teeth. As the motor spins, it transfers rotational force to the engine, enabling the combustion process to start. Once the engine is running, the starting motor disengages to prevent damage. The starting motor is a vital component of the vehicle's electrical system, ensuring reliable engine ignition.
