DESCRIPTION
A compression gauge, also known as a compression tester, is a truck tool used to measure the internal pressure of an engine's cylinders. The device consists of a threaded adapter that screws into the spark plug hole and a gauge that displays the pressure reading in pounds per square inch (PSI). To use the compression gauge, the engine must be turned off and all spark plugs removed. The gauge is then attached to each cylinder in turn, and the engine is cranked for several seconds until the maximum pressure reading stabilizes on the gauge. This reading can be compared against manufacturer specifications to determine if any cylinders are experiencing low compression due to worn or damaged components such as piston rings or valves. Compression gauges are essential tools for diagnosing engine problems and ensuring optimal performance in heavy-duty trucks.
