DESCRIPTION
The Compression Release Lever, identified by part number 64558, is a component found in diesel engines that aids in starting the engine. When the engine is warm, it can be difficult to start due to the high compression of the internal components. The compression release lever allows the operator to temporarily reduce this pressure by opening a valve and releasing some of the compressed air. This makes it easier for the starter motor to turn over and ignite the fuel mixture in the cylinders. Once started, the lever can be released and normal engine operation will resume. The Compression Release Lever is an essential part for reliable starting of large diesel engines commonly found in heavy-duty trucks and other industrial applications.
